The Enduring Echo of Pet Sounds: A Thank You to Brian Wilson
There are albums that change the landscape of music, and then there is Pet Sounds. Hailed by many, myself included, as the single greatest recording ever made, it represents a towering achievement in popular music. At the time of its release in May of 1966, there had never been anything like it. Its creator, Brian Wilson, who we sadly lost this week, channeled a visionary attention to detail into every note, forever altering what was thought possible in the studio and in popular music. For me, Pet Sounds isn't just an influential record; it's a deeply personal touchstone, a sonic companion that has guided and reflected my own journey for decades. If you know me, you know I won’t shut up about Pet Sounds; I'll constantly ask friends, "Have you listened to Pet Sounds this week?" At the same time, it's difficult to truly articulate the profound impact it's had on me, which has made this an exceedingly challenging post to write.

Listen along with us.
May 2025: This month we have a more focused playlist comprised mainly of instrumentals with an emphasis on electronic instruments. Electronic music is so fascinating because it can be some of the most intense music as well as some of the most stoic, relaxing, chill music. This playlist is chill AF.
Each month we put out a playlist with a different theme, so why not listen along with us? If you have any recommendations for artists or tunes we should check out use the contact tab and let us know. We love getting suggestions!
