Listening to Pet Sounds can do it, because if I pay attention I’ll still find some brilliant detail I’ve never heard during my previous 10k listening sessions. The end of Cool Runnings definitely will do it - greatest hour and a half of film of all time - well, alongside the Twin Peaks pilot. Missing my girls will undoubtedly do it. And experiencing a well design space will do it, hell, watching a video about a well designed space will do it - especially mid-century modern spaces.
Yeah, this is just a list of things that will make me emotional and tear up. Fine — it’s a cry list.
But that’s what this whole Salad thing is. It’s an emotional thing before anything else. It’s a gut reaction. It’s about the joy experienced and gained working exclusively with close friends. It’s about designing things that elicit an emotional reaction and create a vibe in a space that feels like home. It’s about paying as much attention to design and details and performance and longevity when designing new things, and then maybe we think about if it’s even financially viable or not. But that’s the least of our priorities when designing any product.
Don’t believe me? Check out our blog for all of our failures and weirdo stuff that would never sell - but we made it anyways because why the hell not?
So what am I really doing here? I guess I’m the vision at Salad. I try to keep it fun, and keep it honest, and make sure everyone feels empowered to design and work without reservation. I’m like a record producer whose sole job is to the make the band shine, and I’ll be damned if this isn’t the best band I’ve ever worked with.
